The new installment of Making Good went up today. This week I interview Phil Hester on the art of writing the short comic.
I’ve been keeping my eye on this artist Matthew Woodson for I guess a couple of years now. I can’t quite articulate my fondness for his art beyond the sense that it resonates something fierce with me. He’s a fantastic illustrator and visual storyteller. Most of his comics work thus far has been short form works in anthologies such as Meathaus and Flight.
Matthew has a new art blog with a focus on his process, which is often times a major benifit for fellow illustrators.
It’s been fabled that Mr. Woodson has a graphic novel in the works with Top Shelf, written by Brian Wood. Little mentions of the comic have been popping up from time to time for a while now. It’s one of those that I’m looking forward to and the last thing I heard is that it should drop sometime in 2007.

Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, spoke with Entertainment Weekly about bringing back Buffy for an 8th season — and doing it in comic books. Whedon has an enormous fan base outside of comics and this goes a long way as far as bringing in new readers to the industry.
Whedon also mentions that he’ll be using fan-favorite characters Spike and Angel sparingly, in spite of competitor IDW’s publishing rights. He has the overall Power, naturally.

I’m writing a new column for the recently revamped and re-launched comic writers’ resource website Scryptic Studios.
The column is called Making Good, and is about making good on your vision to be a writer, on making good comics, and on making a good life for yourself while you’re at it. It’s an interview-based column that will be covering some of the more practical aspects of being a writer, such as dayjobs, time management, family and collaboration.
There is also a column-within-a-column called Ground Floor, in which I will be creating a brand new comic, from scratch to publication, right before your very eyes. Mistakes and all. This week I need your feedback for Ground Floor, so be sure to read the column then vote in the poll that’s been set up. See you there!
I wrote a 5 page comic for “Heroes” that you can find here:

I hope you all enjoy!
Sorry for the silence lately, been mired in my own muck lately. I’ll be back with some force after Thanksgiving.
