STASH x SLICK “Rust in Piece” this Thursday

SLICK x STASH: “Rust in Piece”
Melt Gallery, November 9-December 22
Opening reception for the artists: Thursday, November 9th, 8-11pm
Special Performance by: Money Mark

The newly inaugurated Melt Gallery is proud to present the fine art of two of the country’s most renowned street artists, Stash and Slick. Representing the East and West coasts respectively, the two artists have been honing their distinct styles for more than 20 years and have both become internationally recognized icons in a scene they helped lay the foundation for. Melt is proud to unite both artists-who will be exhibiting together for the first time-bridging the gaps between their definitive coastal styles, influences, and experiences. Each will individually present a body of new work created specifically for the show, and collaborative paintings will represent the first artistic cooperation of the pair. In addition, limited-edition merchandise from both artists will be available throughout the duration of the show.

IMDB Gems

Every so often I do a bit of stunt-piloting on the Internet Movie Database and catch up on what’s happening in the world of motion pictures. Inevitably, on these little sojourns, I stumble upon descriptions of films that baffle or send my heart into palpitations. I’ve decided to share some of these masterpieces in a series I’m calling… IMDB Gems.

Honestly, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to top the brain-shattering absurdity (that said, I’ll be first in line for a ticket) of our first instalment. But without further ado, I give you…

JACK AND DIANE (2007)… (pre-production)

Starring:

Ellen Page (Kitty Pride, X-MEN 3)

Olivia Thirlby (Aubrey Cain, KIDNAPPED)

Comic Retailer Kills Robber

STORE OWNER FATALLY SHOOTS ALLELGED ROBBER

Use of force justified, DuPage officials say

By Ted Gregory
Tribune staff reporter

The owner of a Roselle card, comics and coin shop shot and killed a convicted robber Friday in what authorities said was a justifiable use of force.

In the gunfight at Westlake Coins, Cards and Comics in the 1200 block of West Lake Street, the 49-year-old proprietor, who lives in Hanover Park, was shot once in the arm, DuPage County State’s Atty. Joseph Birkett said at a news conference. He was treated at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village and released.

The alleged robber, a 40-year-old man on parole for a 1994 armed robbery, was shot multiple times, including once in the head, Birkett said. He was not identified. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

Authorities decided not to charge the storeowner after watching a security camera tape of the incident, taking his statement and viewing evidence at the scene, including duct tape and handcuffs inside the alleged attacker’s black bag, Birkett said.

“Whether [the assailant] fired first or not is not really a factor here,” Birkett said, adding the shooting was a “clear case of justifiable use of force.” The proprietor had a valid registration for the revolver, he said.

The man walked into the shop about 10:30 a.m., pulled a revolver from a black bag, leaped over a counter and pointed it at the storeowner, Birkett said.

The proprietor scrambled to his desk a few feet away, retrieved a revolver and began firing, Birkett said.

After being shot, the storeowner fled to a restaurant next-door, where employees helped him call 911, authorities said.

It was the first robbery at the store, which has been in that location for about two years, police said.

Authorities said the last homicide in Roselle occurred more than 20 years ago.

Vincent Gallo’s New Bunny

I just stumbled across this. It’s about a week old but it gave me a good laugh. Apparently filmmaker Vincent Gallo is spending time with some rich teenager (16) whose claim to “fame” is going to celebrity parties and documenting it all on her blog. Gallo’s comment about Madonna is brilliant, and Page Six chose an excellent photo to accompany it. He looks like such an old, lecherous bastard.

October 25, 2006 — “BROWN Bunny” director Vincent Gallo, 45, has a new friend - Los Angeles “It” Girl Cory Kennedy, 16. Kennedy, who blogs about her nightlife exploits and dalliances with celebrities despite being underage, has called Gallo a “keeper” on her blog and posts pictures of them together. Asked to comment, Gallo - who stressed there is no sexual relationship between the two - told Page Six: “With the psychotic, middle-aged Madonna out there on the loose buying up all the stolen Negro babies in Africa, I felt it my social and humanitarian duty to take in any young, beautiful and sexy orphaned Jew teens running wild in Beverly Hills. Cory’s a great kid, and I’m proud to be her daddy.”
