The Boys land at Dynamite Ent.

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Via Newsarama
Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys will return to print shortly, this time, under the Dynamite Entertainment banner.

According to sources, Ennis and Robertson were contacted by many publishers when the news broke that their creator-owned series would no longer be published by Wildstorm, and at the end of the day, the best deal was struck with Dynamite. DC Comics, of which Wildstorm is an imprint, has apparently released the property to the creators, which will allow them to take it to the new home. Finally, Robertson, while exclusive to DC Comics, has already said that his contract allows him to pursue creator-owned work, which will include The Boys at its new home.

DID YOU KNOW?
1. Columbia University is the second largest landowner in New York City, after the Catholic Church?
2. The average American consumes enough caffeine in one year to kill a horse?
3. Florida’s beaches lose 20 million cubic yards of sand annually?
4. More Americans have died in automobile accidents than have died in all the wars ever fought by the United States?
5. In 1933, Mickey Mouse, an animated cartoon character, received 800,000 fan letters?

You Tube: Stingray circa mid 1980’s

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

Ok, I’ve been talking about this show to everyone and what “Pulling a Stingray” on someone means. Well if you don’t know what it means, plain and simple. Watch the intro then read what Stingray is all about. Next time someone ask you for a favor, “Pull a Stingray” on them. BTW Stingray kicked ass! Anyone @ Stephen J. Cannell reading this??? Collect this and release on DVD. Thank you!

Customer of the Month (Feb): Trane

Monday, February 5th, 2007

P1000759.JPG

Welcome to the first of our new Customer of the Month features. This month we highlight Trane Amaro, buyer of many comics and Heroclix and a regular Meltdown Wednesday fixture. It’s always a pleasure to see Trane roll through the doors carryiong his Starbucks and prepared bags and boards, ready to get down to business. Now we get down to a little business of our own. Interview business:

Trane, tell us a little bit about what you collect?  What are the primary publishers and titles that make up your stack every week?
Pretty eclectic.  Ranges between all publishers.  I enjoy good storytelling (single issues as well as multi-parters) and dynamic art (I do have faves but am always looking for new talent).  I’m always open for new hooks, angles, and great reads.

How long have you been shopping at Meltdown?  What’s been your favorite regime over the years?
Shit, about 5 years now.  Of course, the current regime, duh!

If you had one super power to choose what would it be?
Cosmic-presence (is that a super power?).  I would be aware of everything, everywhere; Basically a God!

DRINK & DRAW ON FEB 10

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Drink and Draw

YOU CAN DRINK!
YOU CAN DRAW!

YOU CAN DRINK AND DRAW!

Well, perhaps not you specifically, but you get the general idea, yes?

On Saturday, February 10 Meltdown will be hosting the book launch extravaganza for the Drink & Draw Social Club, a glorious conclave of inebriated illustrators, pickled pencillers, digital dipsomaniacs, the sloshed and the stewed and the stoned; in short – art, alcohol, and amusements aplenty!

This is a time for you to shed your worries and perhaps put pen to page powered by pilsner.  Fueling the festivities we find founders Dave Johnson, Dan Panosian and Jeff Johnson joined by LeSean Thomas, Josh Middleton, Felipe Smith, Jim Mahfood, Tragnark, Michael Avon Oeming, Kat Von D and Manny Moore!

I’m sorry, I mean many more.  Many, many more.  Hey, look!  A book!
