TV Roundup

Jace reviews BBC’s new Robin Hood series over on the excellent Televisionary. Apparently he wasn’t thrilled with the pilot, and here I was looking forward to some new Robin of Locksley stories. Tivo is set for tomorrow’s premiere, so we’ll see. I mean, it’s tough to mess up Robin Hood right? Some stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Some hot Maid Marian action. A sword fight or two with the Sheriff of Nottingham. Some talk of the Holy Lands. Skilled work with a bow and arrow? More on this tomorrow.

HEROES: This weeks episode, Company Man, was the best of season. I’m consistently surprised with this shows staying power. Questions are answered. The story is always moved forward in new and interesting ways. The emotional core of the characters is kept in mind and the relationships are strong. Solid network television.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Man, there’s a flashing red light hanging over this series. Season 3 started with a bang and… well, they kind of lost the plot, eh? The last four or five episodes have been mediocre, at best. We’ve been subject to the Whining Adventures of Helo, two back to back Chief-heavy episodes and countless unecessary meaningful glances between Apollo and Starbuck. Where’s the Cylon threat? Where’s the gutsy Viper piloting? Sigh.

ROME: Phenomenal.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: Still the best damn show on network television that nobody is watching. I keep half expecting one bad episode just out of sheer odds, but nope. Subtle genius every week.

JERICHO: Skeet Ulrich increases the quality of my life weekly. I’m not even ashamed. You cannot take that away from me. Jericho = Rad
