Do you know, Eyebrow Tuna?
Once upon a long time ago, a crazy Englishman (that would be Mr Bisley) and a goofy American (that would be Mr Eastman) were on a trip to Japan to work on a video game for Capcom.
After the ten days of work were completed in Nagoya, the weary two traveled down to Tokyo to visit with their wonderful agents, Rick and Yumiko of JEA, who wanted to introduce them to a few of the many talented artists and visionaries there. There were many, and their skills were epic. One they were quite fond of, Hitoshi “Chuck” Miyata, took them to his world famous “Xenn Studio” and showed them one of his favorite projects—a series of two and a half minute long flash animated cartoons called (translated) “Eyebrow Tuna!”
The long and short of the concept “Mayutoro” or “Eyebrow Tuna” was that he was a “Tuna” with large “Eyebrows” that would discuss what he’s been “up to” with a mysterious off camera voice. Designed for kids, these happy shorts were full of playful fun—but not for long…
As the translator tried to keep up with the action/dialogue of the little shorts, the two visiting (and slightly drunk) barbarians decided to fill in their own voices, most of which involved allot of cursing. All laughed, and drank more. As the evening ran on, it was decided and agree in blood that this concept must be brought to America, be re-voiced, and then unleashed on an innocent public.
Many years passed, and as much as Mr Bisley and Mr Eastman wanted the project completed, the tide of their other work was against them…
…enter the multi talented dear old friend Paul Jenkins.
At the end of one of the recent San Diego Comic Conventions, all three of the silly gentlemen sat at an outdoor dining establishment and decided Paul was the only one sober enough to carry the torch of “Eyebrow Tuna” through the thick fields of the enemy (which means someone who would take the shorts, write the scripts, arrange the voice talent, and pretty much everything else) and finally make it happen.
Thus he did–and with the help of Mr Eastman’s checkbook, eleven shorts and one song were recorded in early 2006! With much joy and happiness, the entire clan then promptly watched a massive series of production problems and misunderstandings lead to delay after delay until now.
So there you have it, the saga of a genius idea, a drunken agreement, and the man to bring it to life. Enjoy the first few episodes you can link to now, but first look at the REALLY important credits, and some images/cast and characters from the original series!
