GAG ME WITH A TOON 2 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: EL MAZ
El Maz is a self-taught artist who currently lives in North East Los Angeles. His friends call him Maz, the El is there just to make him feel important. While growing up in the 80′s, Maz was fed a steady diet of cartoons, video games, graffiti, hypercolor t-shirts, and Joe Camel. He loves He-Man, M.U.S.C.L.E. Men, Lego dudes, and Zippo lighters. He only sleeps 3 hours a night and is convinced he is slowly becoming a toothless bat. His best friend is a one-eyed carrot named Fred. They are currently co-writing and illustrating a book about their latest and greatest adventures. While he is mostly known for his urban vinyl work, Maz is now focusing his efforts on developing a detailed pen and ink style and playing with watercolors. His current dream is to design a skateboard or a snowboard for any decent company and to see someone actually riding it (seriously, if you can make that happen, or know someone who could, he would love you forever!!!). He also wishes he owned a car that could transform into a helicopter with Ginsu knives for blades. His artwork, rants, blog posts, and updates can be found on his myspace.
