July 7, 2009 – Regular visitors of IGN, and fans of Blackest Night, have probably noticed a couple hints tucked away in Green Lantern articles or in our Twitter feed. With DC’s summer event just around the corner, we’re finally ready to announce something really, really special.

IGN has arranged, in cooperation with DC Comics, Meltdown Comics and writer Geoff Johns, to bring Blackest Night to Los Angeles a bit early. Specifically we’ve set up a midnight launch event to celebrate the arrival of the storyline in style. Mark your calendars for the evening of July 14, and bring all your friends, to pick up Blackest Night #1. Johns will be in attendance to meet the Green Lantern fans and sign copies of the first issue.

Johns provided us with a quick comment on the event: “To have IGN – one of the biggest pop culture websites – and Meltdown Comics – one of the greatest and most unique comic book stores I’ve ever been to and a longtime local favorite of mine – kick off the midnight launch for Blackest Night means it’s going to be a very fun and very long night. I’m already resting up!”

You and all of the IGN Los Angeles staff, Geoff… but more importantly, it’s going to be a blast.

In addition to the midnight sale and signing, IGN and Meltdown are hosting a Blackest Night Reception earlier in the evening. Though primarily designed for press and invited industry guests only, a limited number of customers will also be able to attend. Meltdown will have more details on how to attend in the coming days.
