FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Exciting Book on Voice-Over Picked up by Distribution Co Due to Web-Savvy Marketing

VO Pros Write & Publish Book about Voice-Over, Use Social Network And Land Distribution Deal

LOS ANGELES, November 1, 2009 — These days when you don’t have a major publishing co’s PR machine working for you, social networking and creative marketing is really the only way for a self-published book to compete. Of course it doesn’t hurt that the authors are two of the VO world’s top rising stars. And that’s how they scored a distribution deal for their new book on the ins and outs of the voice-over industry. Besides using services like Twitter and Facebook, the two have been guests on many podcasts and online talk shows, written up in blogs and are wildly working the web to promote their book, Voice-Over Voice Actor: What It’s Like Behind the Mic.

We hear it all the time in cartoons and commercials, but voice-over has quickly bloomed into a field rife with opportunity, with video games beating box office and New Media redefining the Internet as a place to go for entertainment. And this new book by Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt, two working pros with a long list of credits and a stellar reputation in the biz, cracks open this secret world for the curious observer as well as the actor interested in breaking in. While still just off the presses in its first edition, the book is well into selling out its first run directly through the authors’ website (http://www.VoiceOverVoiceActor.com). And thanks to a newly minted distribution deal with Emerald Book Group the book will be available to a larger audience in the Spring.

With insider tips and in-depth discussion in a conversational and irreverent style, the book, Voice-Over Voice Actor: What It’s Like Behind the Mic, is also peppered with anecdotes from stars in the field like Phil Morris (Secret Saturdays), Wil Wheaton (Batman: The Brave and the Bold), and Dee Bradley Baker (Spongebob Squarepants), and a foreword by Eisner Award winning comic book writer Paul Jenkins (Wolverine: Origin). This book is sure to open eyes and entertain.

“It’s more than just how to get into [VO],” Tara says, “we describe what working in the business is like, and how to build a career by staying relevant.” The book is filled with everything from mic technique and the auditioning process to suggestions for voice exercises and tips on self-marketing, something these two know quite a bit about.

Other VO celebs are praising Voice-Over Voice Actor. Phil LaMarr (Futurama), no stranger to acting and voice-over, says, “People always ask me for advice on how to get started in the VO business. My advice: Get this book.” Emmy award-winning voice director Andrea Romano (Avatar: the Last Airbender) lends her endorsement by adding, Anyone wishing to pursue a career in voice-over will be more prepared and have a better chance of success if they read & heed the wisdom contained in this book. Were I teaching a class right now, this book would be a required text.”

The info contained in the book is also supplemented by free information on their website in the form of exercises, tips and a blog (http://www.RaiseYourVoiceActing.com) The authors constantly challenge those interested in getting into this business to be proactive and take daily steps to make their dreams come true. “We even set up a Twitter feed with a VO tip every day (M-F) to help get people excited and thinking about what they can do on own to get started,” And this is just another example of how these savvy entrepreneurs are employing cutting edge marketing techniques. Yuri adds, “We first came in contact with our distributor via Twitter, so we’re definitely open to taking the non-traditional path.”

Lowenthal and Platt have a long list of voice-over credits from animation to video games, commercials, narration and more. Some of their more recognizable credits include Yuri’s Superman (Legion of Superheroes), Ben (Ben 10: Alien Force), Jinno/Kuma (on the Emmy-Nominated Afro Samurai: Resurrection), and the Prince (the Prince of Persia video games) as well as Dell, Coca-Cola and more. Tara’s credits include Wonder Woman (DC vs. Mortal Kombat), Dream Girl (Legion of Superheroes), and Temari (Naruto) as well as commercial work for clients like Subaru, Budweiser and McDonald’s.

The authors are hosting a launch party for their new book this Friday, November 13th at Meltdown Gallery at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood (7522 Sunset Boulevard, LA, CA 90046) from 7pm – 10pm
