Live and direct from Tokyo, we bring you a rare interview with the cross-cultural manga sensation, Felipe Smith!

Back in the states for a brief respite from writing and drawing comics like the Meltcast-approved Peepo Choo, we have an extensive and energetic chat with Felipe about being a foreigner in Japan, and the life of a working artist in the high-pressure manga industry. Also, Felipe gives us an on-the-ground view of Tokyo after the earthquake and tsunami.

Fools for Love: a Nerd Speed-Dating Show

Are you tired of going to Meltdown on Wednesday, to pick up your comics alone? Does your Mage not have a warrior to protect him? Does the arrow on your “There is no intelligent life” t-shirt not point to anyone?

Well Meltdown Comics is here to help your lonely heart. We are holding the first ever nerd speed dating event. This is no April Fools joke. For $20 you get to be a part of fun night where single men and women with similar interests get to know each other ASAP. There will also be fun prizes, some comedy bits and music.

How it works: What is speed dating you ask? The ladies sit down and every 3 minutes gents rotate. You introduce yourself. Get a feel for the other person. The ladies take notes on all the men the meet. At the end of the night the sheet with notes are given to Meltdown. If there is a match we let you know then you go on a date, you get married and you have kids you dress up like Hobbits for Halloween.

Of course we will be adding some of the spice that you expect from any event at Meltdown. There will be wine, trivia questions, prizes, comedians and much much more.

Brent Weinbach and Rob F. of the video game music podcast The Legacy Music Hour present a dance night featuring ONLY video game music from the 8-bit and 16-bit era. No remixes, no covers, no adaptations of non-video game music -just pure, original, dancy music from the Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and more.

Plus, special video game music related contests and prizes!  There’s a “name that tune” contest, a video game music karaoke contest, and a video game music dance battle.  Sign up at the beginning of the night to become a possible contestant.

Note about VGM Karaoke: You can sing along to a song of your choice with either prepared written lyrics, lyrics you make up on the spot, or humming along gibberish.  Audience will vote by applause on the winner, based on overall performance.
