This week sees the return of the full Meltcast crew, with Brew, Chris, Caleb and The Hammer together at the table — just in time for Fear Itself: Book of the Skull! Reunited and it feels so good.

After discussing Brew’s interior decorating tips, we discuss the new creative teams for Daredevil and the Punisher. Then we tackle the prologue of Marvel’s big event for 2011, Fear Itself: Book of the Skull! Does it deliver?

Meltcast favorite Andy Khouri of ComicsAlliance rejoins the crew for an impassioned discussion of the age-old battle: Marvel vs. DC!

First we lead in with a tale of woe, bootlegging, and a youthful $150. Then a recollection of the now-legendary Marvel vs. DC crossover leads into a rehash of Marvel’s Civil War event — a sore spot for some at the table!

This week, the Meltcast memorializes and celebrates comic book champion Dwayne McDuffie, who passed away on February 21.

Andy Khouri of Comics Alliance joins the crew as we give testimony to the career of writer, editor, publisher and producer Dwayne McDuffie. From Marvel to Milestone, his success in animation, his efforts to represent diversity on and off the page, and most of all, his skills as a storyteller, we discuss the many reasons the industry will miss Mr. McDuffie.

Get out your tiny scissors and microscopic glue! We need a MILLION Minis!

What we at False Start Presents are trying to do here is to foster a sense of community among DIYers in Los Angeles and help that attitude spread to a wider audience. We want to introduce DIY, especially zines, to people who are curious but hesitant, and then we want them to have a place to talk to people who have been doing it for years.

There is a vibrant zine-making scene in L.A., but like everything else in this wonderful city, zinesters are separated by miles and miles. We want these workshops to be events that bring people together to share what they know. We want to give people a voice and let them know that whatever they want to say, someone will listen.

The way we’re hoping to foster this awesome productive togetherness is through monthly workshops. The workshops build to an exhibition– for example, after two silkscreening workshops, we’ll have a fashion show; after four zine-making workshops, we’ll have an zine show.

Join us in the gallery at Meltdown Comics from 12:30 – 2:30 on Saturday, February 19th to read zines, meet other zine-y people and make your very own mini!

Who is Team False Start? Well I’m glad you asked. Team False Start consists of four lovely ladies, the likes of which being Rhea (of Magick Orchids and Only for the Open Minded), Simon Sotelo (of HireSimon.com), Bianca Barragan (of the zines Things You Can Learn When You Listen to Strangers and Trust Me, I Know What I’m Doing), and yours truly, Meredith Wallace.

RSVP to the event on Facebook. See you there!
