DnDMelt’s Celebrity Charity Dungeons and Dragons Event!

Meltdown’s own Satine Phoenix (http://satinephoenix.net/) is Hosting a 4 table Celebrity gaming event. Each table, with up to 6 players per table, will be running the same adventure written by Celebrity Writer Keith Baker (creator of Eberron, who will also be DMing one of the 4 tables.)

The fundraising part of this event starts HERE!  We’re working with Stickam.com to bring to you, wherever in the world you are, Pay Per View access to each table. With a minimum payment of $1 you can watch how one table of creatives solves this adventure. Don’t limit yourself to one group, watch all 4 tables! But that’s not all, you’ll be able to purchase the adventure as a PDF for $5 to play with your own group of gamers!

The proceeds will then be announced the following Monday (allowing all who wish to continue to donate through the weekend to do so) and presented to Reach Out and Read.

What exactly is Reach Out and Read?
Reach Out and Read Is an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud.

People always ask us “What is Harmontown?”, and that’s a tough question to answer, but here’s the closest thing we’ve got:
The countdown continues due to overwhelming demand: Attend a town meeting in a land free of brevity, where Mayor Dan Harmon (creator of NBC’s Community) and Comptroller Jeff B. Davis (Whose Line is it Anyway) take another small, drunken step toward colonizing the moon. Evening may include ineffectual rants, songs, shameful stories, special guests, forehead sweat and repeated exposure to the phrases “like” , “uh”, “sort of” and “you know.”.

We here at DnDMelt are looking for a few good men and women to be on our team of Super Dungeon Masters. We will be running games on Thursday nights and Sunday Days. Perks for you will be *Free DnDMelt Monthly Membership! and DM swag… Amongst other things I’m wheeling and dealing for and will post about soon.

As DMs, you will be my Knights of the Round Table. I am looking for Men and Women I can rely on to show up when they say they can and be on time those days. You will not be required to DM every gaming day. I will work with whatever schedule works for you because you are my Rockstars! You are my Magic Makers. Without you we can not game.

Reach Out and Read (http://rorLosAngeles.org) is an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. Reach Out and Read builds on the unique relationship between parents and medical providers to develop critical early reading skills in children, beginning at 6 months of age. The 3.8 million families served annually by Reach Out and Read read together more often, and their children enter kindergarten with larger vocabularies, with stronger language skills, and better prepared to succeed.

So you’ve sold a script and you’re excited.  But what’s the next one going to be? What if you’re thinking about doing a superhero story and you’re not a comics fan?  Or you didn’t grow up reading about Superman, Spider-man, and Batman?

What if you’re an aspiring screenwriter and you think you’d like to break in with a script about people with super powers?

There have been more and more movies and TV shows made about superheroes that have been good and successful. There are ones made from existing comics characters Batman: Dark Knight, Watchmen, the three Spider-man movies, lesser known ones from comics like Wanted, Astroboy, as well ones made from original screenplays that are either about super people, like The Incredibles,Hancock, or My Super Ex-Girlfriend, or films and shows that draw heavily on superhero mythology and traditions like The Matrix, Buffy, Heroes, and Chuck.

Here at Meltdown University, we know superheroes.  Melt U head instructor and Program Director Jim Higgins has 16 years of experience in the comics business, including six years as an editor and assistant editor at DC Comics, 12 years as a comics teacher, a BA and MA in cinema studies, and five years experience teaching film studies at The City University of New York.  His  workshop will give you a grounding in story structure and then an overview of the history, mythology, and various aspects of the superhero story so you can do your own and do it well.

If you’re interested in doing a script about how heroes can better society, or how power corrupts, and the superhero story is going to be your vehicle, sign up for this one day seminar.  We’ll make you do painful homework in preparation like watch good movies and read a couple of great graphic novels. We think you’ll have fun and learn something in the process.
