HOLMES GRAPHIC NOVEL SIGNING TOMORROW FROM 11/2!

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Tomorrow, May 7th, we’ll be having SoCal writer/artist Omaha Perez in from 11-2 to sign copies of his new Graphic Novel HOLMES , published by AiT/Planet Lar.  Perez’s revamping of the classic character has led to rave reviews, like from Ain’t It Cool News: "Though Purists may scoff at a Sherlock Holmes more like Iggy Pop than than the classic sleuth.  I found myself laughing out loud at the mentally skewed adventures depicted in HOLMES."

Here’s a synopsis of the book:

"Omaha Perez’ vicious skewering of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic
literary creations is finally collected! This version of the Sherlock
Holmes mythos expands on Dr. Watson’s revelation that Holmes was a
narcotics addict. The World’s Greatest Detective is a maniac completely
out of his head on drugs at all times and Dr. Watson, his own personal
"Dr. Feelgood," isn’t much better off. Appearance meets reality as the duo
must cope with their handicaps while recovering composer Joseph Haydn’s
missing skull."

After two years of design work, Archer Prewitt’s Giant Sof’Boy has been released by Press Pop Gallery. The 24″ tall vinyl figure will be limited to a run of at least 70 pieces (they say it depends on how long the mold lasts…maybe up to 90). At over 2 feet in height, the Giant Sof’Boy will be huge. It looks like the love child of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and the Pillsbury Doughboy.

“The Perry Bible Fellowship” is not a church, although it has been known to inspire a certain cultish zeal amongst its fans. The “Perry Bible Fellowship” is in fact a strange and nearly always surreal newspaper strip and Webcomic by Nicholas Gurewitch. Somewhat reminiscent of “The Far Side” in terms of its fierce weirdness, “Perry Bible Fellowship” is composed of vignettes highlighting the strangeness of life, religion and politics in a manner sometimes macabre, sometimes with a childlike glee, and illustrated in a variety of art styles.

By far the funniest book I’ve read this year, Don’t let the colorful cover fool you, it’s not for kids.
Stop by, take a gander, few copies left.
