2:00 – 6:00PM
Meltdown Comics
7522 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90046 www.meltdowncomics.com
Bubble Punch is revamping the Super*Market event at Meltdown Comics, gathering all of the most awesome nerd gear in So Cal to create a metropolis of kickass shopping in one place.
Super*Market was originally the brainchild of Jessica Gao, who created super*MARKET as a vending fair for comics and the arts at UCLA, then moved to Meltdown for a very successful run. Jessica says, ”I couldn’t be happier to see the triumphant return of super*MARKET. It was an event that has always been dear to my heart and to have it in the capable hands of Bubble Punch is ultra-cute icing on the cake.”
Along with hunting for awesome swag, guests can also party down with live entertainment, refreshments, and a chance to mix and mingle with other colorful and fun patrons.
Super*Market vendors will specialize in the bright, geeky, girly, and super unique. Jewelry designers, unique clothing designers, and even second hand clothing from Japan will all be sold for the first time in one place at this fashionably nerdy event.
Entertainment during the event will be provided by the DJ team at Tune In Tokyo, along with a live podcast from the lady nerds at Defective Geeks, event snaps, and much more!
Complimentary drinks will also be provided for shoppers to help them party the day away!
Admission to this event is FREE!

Throughout his twenty-five-year career, Daniel Clowes has always been ahead of artistic and cultural movements. In the late 1980s and 1990s his ground breaking comic-book series Eightball defined the indie aesthetic of alternative comics, with wit, venom, and even a little sympathy. His breakthrough success, Ghost World, convinced mainstream readers of comics’ literary potential. In the new millennium, with works such as Ice Haven, Wilson, Mister Wonderful, and The Death-Ray, Clowes has redefined the graphic novel as an art form. Continue reading »
Hi, people curious about Mini-Melt! Below is what we worked on last class– COMPOSITION! This blog will go over what we learned, and include work done by the students in our class. Thanks for reading
COMPOSITION
PLANNING your Panels, Using DIAGONALS , and Changing FOCAL POINTS
A lot of times when you sit down to make a comic, you might be really excited and go right to your drawing and writing. That’s great, and many people work like that!
However, it can also be really helpful to PLAN OUT your panels a bit before drawing them. This way, you can decide to use different FOCAL POINTS in different panels, you can also use DIAGONALS (which we will talk about later), and you can PLAN your COMPOSITION.
Today, everybody will be doing this lesson, whether a continuing student or a new student. That’s because this is something that’s helpful to learn at any point in comics, whether you’re just starting or have been out it for a while!
Let’s Go Over The Terms Above –!! Continue reading »
