THE LINE UP FOR JUNE 18th:

PAUL SCHEER: A UCB alum, a Human Giant member, a hilarious comedian in many different forms. Who know’s what he’ll do? But you can be sure that it’ll be amazing.

JEN KIRKMAN: She has an album out on AST RECORDS, a regular on CHELSEA LATELY as well as the CHELSEA COMEDY TOURS, and an amazing writer. I’ve been watching her for years and have loved what she has progress to as a comic.

DAN MINTZ: With a Comedy Central Presents under his belt he’s become one of the most sought after comedy writers. His credits include: Saturday Night Live, IMPORTANT THINGS w/ Demetri Martin, Lucky Louie, The Andy Milonakis Show, Crank Yankers and much more. See him and you won’t regret it.

STEVE AGEE: He’s back from the south, let’s see what he’s got for us!

NATASHA LEGGERO: One of my favorites to watch. She’s appeared on RENO 911, Chelsea Lately, the Sarah Silverman Program, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Ugly Americans and FUNNY OR DIE PRESENTS.

MATT DWYER: A legend of depression. An amazing improviser, writer and stand up comedian.

JOHN VARGAS: John is one of the smartest most intimidating comics I know. With his hit show at the Fake Gallery he’s honed a commanding presence on stage. Be challenged and laugh at the comedy of John Vargas.

And as always, FOOD TRUCK, BEER, GUEST DROP INS (Last month we had Aziz Ansari and Joe Mande do amazing sets.)

So…c’mon by.

MaxFunDrive 2010 Blowout Finale Bash @MeltdownComics this Friday! | Meltdown, Inc.

Lost Season 6: They Went Out Like Suckers in Many Respects

4 8 15 16 23 42

By Brian Doherty.  Senior Editor, Reason magazine, author of the books THIS IS BURNING MAN, RADICALS FOR CAPITALISM, and GUN CONTROL ON TRIAL, Founder and president of Cherry Smash Records (1993-2001, approx, but closets still full of singles and CDs)

4 8 15 16 23 42

Invested in five-seasons of LOST-via-DVD, and wondering if you should bother with season 6, having heard all sorts of mysterious whispers hinting that when you get near that finale—run the other way!

What follows is for someone willing to have their viewing experience of Lost ruined by knowing “what happened” to the extent that much of anything happened—or really happened?? [[cue Giacchino scene change sound burst]]. It’s also for those willing to have their viewing experience of Lost ruined by actually watching season 6.

You’ve doubtless heard many times since Sunday night’s hydrogen bomb of a finale that Lost had two types of fans—those in it for the characters, and those in it for the plot and mystery. As that backgammon game back in season one set us up to think, the show is all about dualities of good v. evil. (That its central metaprotagonists, Jacob and Smokey, had little other than their ends distinguishing their manipulative and murdering ways, and since those ends remained obfuscated until the end of the next to last episode, made things a little confusing, yes.)

But the distinction we’re working with here is between those who wanted the show to give us enough unambiguous information to understand its plot, themes, and intent, and those willing to let people with larger stores of cultural reference, more time to think about Lost, than we do explain to us how it all did make sense, or might have made sense, or could be seen as making sense if we squint a lot, read some more books, and are as charitable and forgiving to Lost’s writers as alt-Locke was to alt-Ben.

This is the summation for those of us who wanted from season 6 resolution, wrap-up, or explanation of what we were delighted and fascinated by watching season 1-5 DVDs.  But just like all our beloved characters on Lost, in the end we had to be content not with achieving our goals, but just…letting go. COMEDY AT MELTDOWN COMICS. Attention all geniuses NOT going to COACHELLA. This show is a far better substitute than standing in the heat around a bunch of assholes. Come and hang out, should be a lot of fun.  We got pick of the week in the LA WEEKLY: http://www.laweekly.com/events/jonah-rays-meltdown-905773/  Here’s the line up: HUGH MOORE: Hugh Moore is one of the hardest working comics around right now. You would never think by watching him though. His laid back style is juxtaposed against an onslaught of great joke after great joke. A writer for the short lived CHOCOLATE NEWS is a comics comic. Always generating new material that seems as honed and perfected as anything he’s been doing for years. You will see him and be blown away, I guarantee.  MARY LYNN RAJSKUB:   Mary Lynn is best known for her role in FOX’S show “24” starring Kiefer Sutherland. But she’s been a personal favorite of mine as a comic ever since her days on HBO’s MR. SHOW with Bob and David. Never one to say a joke and mean it, Mary Lynn takes you on a weird path down a street yer not quite sure exists. You go along with her, you think to yerself “fuck it, wherever she takes me I’m sure it’ll be awesome.” And it’s true.  LAURA KIGHTLINGER:    A legendary stand up comic. A former SNL cast member and the Creator/Star of her own show on IFC (The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman.) Laura Kightlinger is a mainstay. I’d say that I’ve been a fan since I was a kid but that would just upset her. Taking self deprecation and self medication to a heightened level of art, Laura has a timeless sensibility that doesn’t age…just like her.  STEVE AGEE:   Part of one of the best comedic ensembles on TV (the Sarah Silverman Programme) Steve has a lot going for him these days. But don’t tell him that. You see, Steve is one of the happiest curmudgeons you’ll ever meet. And that’s what makes me such a huge fan of his. More than anybody I know, Steve is constantly convinced he is about to die. So, he will come onto stage in his monthly conversation with me about his hobbies that include: Death Notes, Self Help Tapes, Constantly Getting Sick, and Being single at 40 years old  DANA GOULD:  Mother Fucking DANA GOULD. I would use the term “powerhouse” if I was the type to use such a term. But it’s the only thing I can think of to describe seeing this former writer/producer of the SIMPSONS perform. No matter how long he performs it never seems like enough. If you’ve never seen him perform then stop missing out and do your self a favor by watching him.  If that wasn’t enough, there will be other surprises throughout the show. Including a performance from comedic musician ELI BRADEN. And  a sketch by Marley Halpern-Glaser and Elisha Yaffe.  And to top it off: Free beer, The Crepe’in Around (crepe truck), and comic books.
