Eat More Art Out Productions is bringing back the seventies and honoring one of the greatest sitcom series of all time with their first group art show, “Come and Knock On Our Door: A Tribute to John Ritter”.

October 17th, 2014 – 7 pm
Meltdown Gallery inside Nerdist Showroom, Hollywood, Calif.

Former roller derby girls Jane Dope, Sleazy Bake Oven and Hussy Whipped are trading their scuffed up skates and stinky safety gear for artist wrangling and gallery receptions as they host their first, of hopefully very very many, themed group art shows that might more accurately be described as art parties. Their plan to dish up a healthy serving of quality art in a low pressure, highly themed atmosphere is a foolproof recipe for an unforgettable event. “We want art to be fun and inviting, even if you think you know nothing about it. Our motto: Grab a beer and tell your inner critic to relax. It’s just art!”

Jane Dope is the founder of Angel City Derby Girls’ annual silent auction fundraiser Eat Your Art Out. In recent years, the trio has teamed up with Angel City Derby Girls and Titmouse animation studios to bring this Los Angeles art scene staple to unprecedented success. Now these ladies for ready for year ‘round curating! Art parties for all!!

Hollywood, CA – Meltdown Comics presents:
The Doctor Is In: A Tribute to The Show.

This interdisciplinary exhibition will bring together work by a group of [mostly] of over 100 local artists and followers to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the sci-fi cult classic. From angels who weep to Dalek plungers and whisks, the art about our favorite madman with a box police box will be nothing to shake a sonic screwdriver at.

Curator FD has assembled artists whose work for the shows includes animation, graphic design, illustration, graffiti, comics, painting, installation and performance. Each artwork presented was chosen based on the artist’s vision and how their work portrays a distinct Los Angeles interpretation of the monolithic British franchise.

About the Gallery:
Meltdown Gallery on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. Meltdown Gallery is located within Meltdown Comics, one of the most respected comic book stores in the world. Meltdown Comics/Meltdown Gallery is a key component in the cultural sphere of Los Angeles. Meltdown Gallery exhibits local and international established and emerging artists working in the mediums of graphic novel/comic art, designer toys, graffiti/aerosol painting, photography, illustration, and digital artwork.

About Meltdown Comics:
In 1993 with little more than some Vertigo comics, a run of “The Crow”, and some Spider-Man t-shirts Meltdown Comics and Collectibles opened its doors. The neighbors were afraid to let their children come in and play the Jokers Wild pinball game and the pimps would run their girls in to hide from the cops. Constantly gazing across the street at the not-so-aptly named “Syds” children’s store Gaston Dominguez-Letelier and Ilia Carson-Letelier knew their dream of one day being the largest comic book store on the west coast would one day come day come true.

After 2 moves on the same block (and with the help of Francisco Dominguez and Hisami Dominguez-Letelier) in 2002, that dream materialized. Now the mecca for all things comic book, comedy, podcasting and pop-culture related bits, Meltdown celebrates its 20th anniversary this fall with a blockbuster line-up of events and programs that in the past have garnered such accolades as “Best of LA” LA Weekly, “Best of LA” LA Magazine, “Best Comedy” LA Weekly, “Top 50 things why LA kicks ass?” LA Weekly, “Best Store” Playboy Magazine “top 10 store you must visit before you die” etc…

About NerdMelt:
You won’t find a marquee for the NerdMelt Showroom on Sunset Boulevard, or any signage, for that matter. When you walk in to the verifiable comic book Mecca that is Meltdown Comics and head to the back, a Nerdist logo greets your entrance to one of the most unique performance  paces in Los Angeles. It isn’t your typical showroom with plush chairs, dark walls and a far off green room marking the divide between performer and audience. This is NerdMelt Showroom. If NerdMelt’s vitality is partially drawn from its unique aesthetics and surroundings, perhaps the rest is thanks to the community that has found itself drawn to the vision of Chris Hardwick of bringing the best, most unique, nerd-centric entertainment to you. It’s a place for Dan Harmon to hold court among a hundred or so adoring fans. It’s a place to see your favorite podcasts recorded live, in the flesh. It’s a place to spend your Sunday afternoons listening to Ben Blacker host the best television writers in the industry discussing their craft. It’s a place where every Wednesday night any standup comedian you’ve ever wished to see could be at The Meltdown with Jonah Ray and Kumail Nanjiani, from Louis C.K. to Jim Gaffigan to Robin Williams. It’s The Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics and it’s the D.I.Y. beating heart of Los Angeles’s comedy
