Los Angeles, for all of its art, music and culture, is sorely lacking in the zine department. This isn’t for a lack of interest, but a lack of community! False Start Independent Books & Zines hopes to create a more cohesive community built around a do-it-yourself attitude. The titles carried by False Start range from literary zines to punk how-to guides, diary comics to art zines. The main thread that ties all of these works together is aesthetics and a DIY attitude about art and culture. Too often people feel excluded from the world of art — whether it’s because they think they need a formal education to create it or don’t have enough money to buy it. False Start wants to put an end to that!
Meltdown Comics has seen the light and graciously given False Start a space back by the gallery to sell zines and comics in their store.
