75,000 Copies of First ‘LOEG 3′
‘Century Part 1′
Published: 02/12/2009 01:04am

Top Shelf plans a first print run of 75,000 copies of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 3: Century Part 1, the first of three 80-page books that will make up LOEG Vol. 3 (see “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. 3). The book is planned for release in April, and if even a fraction of the people that will have bought the Watchmen graphic novel by then seek out this new work from Moore, that print run won’t last long.

The comic-sized work will be written by Alan Moore with art by Kevin O’Neill; lettered by Todd Klein, colors by Ben Dimagmaliw. The three parts of Volume 3 each take place in different eras, with an apocalyptic finish in the present.

Alan Moore Knows The Score

NME Feature 04.02.89 (Writer: Andrew Collins)

Can U Dig It? asks the new single from Pop Will Eat Itself. But before you get a chance to answer, the lads steam in with a catalogue of the things they hold dear. It’s an HM disco fantasy shopping list!

EXCERPT:

ALAN MOORE KNOWS
THE SCORE

The first great line of
’89, in my mind; Alan Moore is the man who virtually kickstarted
the Great Brit Comix Renaissance with Swamp Thing and Watchmen
and the recently revived V For Vendetta (specifically
name-checked in verse two.)

“He makes quite a few
appearances on the LP. He looks like an absolute rampaging
hippie! Massive beard! I wonder if Ben Elton’s against him?”

Elton’s book is an
ecological disaster story – since Moore’s Swamp Thing is about us
lot screwing up our world, I wonder if Clint is eco-minded?

“It’s not something I
spend a great deal of time thinking about. But what Alan Moore’s
done, he’s made CARING hip again. He shouldn’t have to try, but
people don’t care.

The Melt Gallery at Meltdown is proud to present PHYSICAL NOSTALGIA, A group art showing that will serve as an examination of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon’s graphic novel WATCHMEN and how the themes and images contained therein have permeated pop art culture.

An artist’s reception party will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and is sponsored by Asahi beer.

Curator Marz Richards says, “PHYSICAL NOSTALGIA will exhibit a wild variety of art styles and media to present facets of this seminal work that will be lost as WATCHMEN transitions from the page to the silver screen. Now is the last moment for the knot-tops and grizzled vigilantes of art to stand up and show us what WATCHMEN means to them as the last five minutes of the doomsday clock tick away.”

Exhibiting artists include Eldon Asp, Steven Daily, Howard Hallis, Mack Hill, Jim Mahfood aka FOOD ONE, Kiyoshi Nakazawa, Jeret Ochi, Osgood Perkins, Raymond Persi, Renfield, Fill Marc Sagadraca, Christopher Stangl, Elan Trinidad, Marco Rached (SPRFKR), Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca, with items from the private collections of John Cogan and David Mandel.

The show will continue in exhibition from March 7 until Saturday, March 22 at the Melt Gallery.

Finally the Watchmen movie website has been updated with a profile. Who is the Comedian? Here’s a little bio off the site.
One of the most active vigilantes in the Watchmen universe, Edward Blake operated as the Comedian for decades, in addition to working for the U.S. government in Vietnam and elsewhere. Originally a jester-themed hero, he later took on a more militaristic outfit, in keeping with his violent solutions to most problems, He is by all appearances a cynical egotist using moralistic vigilantism as a cover for his sadistic tendencies.

It all begins with the paranoid delusions of a half-insane hero called Rorschach. But is Rorschach really insane or has he in fact uncovered a plot to murder super-heroes and, even worse, millions of innocent civilians? On the run from the law, Rorschach reunites with his former teammates in a desperate attempt to save the world and their lives, but what they uncover will shock them to their very core and change the face of the planet! Following two generations of masked superheroes from the close of World War II to the icy shadow of the Cold War comes this groundbreaking comic story – the story of The Watchmen.

Watchmen is based on the 12-part DC Comics series written by Alan Moore and featuring art by Dave Gibbons.
