Hello Melters, I hope this week has found all of you well.  The weather has been incredible, its almost the weekend, theres not a whole lot to be upset about is there?  Anyway its been a very interesting past few days in the nerd world as well as here at Meltdown comics.  As per usual I will be giving you my weekly update.

Screen Shot 2016-03-24 at 11.34.06 PM

We had another amazing comedy night this past Wednesday here at Meltdown.  We had the amazing talents Al Madrigal, James Austin Johnson, Janine Brito, Casey Ley, Pete Holmes, and a huge surprise guest in the form of Judd Apatow!  You never know who will show up Wednesday nights here and its a show you don’t want to miss.

By the time you guys read this, Batman vs Superman will have just hit theaters.  As many of you probably know the media has not been kind to this movie.  The movie’s premiere was this past Monday, and as a result, a lot of movie critics got to see the movie early.  If you have been paying attention to the reactions, they have been less than stellar.  Critics, have called the movie confusing, too long, too dark visually (apparently you can’t see anything) and the only saving grace is Ben Affleck is a decent Batman.  While many of us may say they saw this coming, Zack Snyder and the cast of the film have come to its defense asking the fans to see the movie and make their own decisions.  I know I will still give it a shot, will you?

It was recently announced that Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford have signed on to make yet another Indiana Jones movie.  While I personally am always game for more Indy action, there was some news that troubled me as a fan.  Not long after it was announced the movie was going into production, it was also announced that the writer of the much maligned 4th installment “Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull” will be penning this new script for the 5th movie in the franchise.  While I certainly didn’t hate Crystal Skull, I know it ticked off a lot of fans.  I’m all for second chances but this writer’s track record doesn’t speak well.

The Trailer for the Lego Batman Movie dropped and I can’t freakin wait.  I love what Lego is doing with its movies.  Check it out yourself.

One of the biggest questions in the movie world right now is, who will play the young Han Solo in the origin pic Disney has planned?  While the list is apparently getting narrowed down, there are still a lot of names to cut before they find their Solo.  Disney knows how important this character is to Star Wars fans and they know they have to cast just the right actor.  One notable name that came up that seems to be a top contender for the role is Miles Teller.  In an interview, Teller admitted that before the audition he had never seen the original movies!  After seeing them he immediately fell in love with the character and became very interested in the role.  What do you think about this?  Is this better or worse for the character?

It’s an age old statement, often exclaimed to the Comic Gods from within a sea of single issues: “I want to read a comic, but I have no idea where to start!”

You’re in luck! @MeltdownComics has shelves full of new titles, and we’re not only talking about the slew of Marvel #1’s released week-to-week.

Image Comics continues to impress with debuts of “Mercenary Sea,” “Fuse,” and the most recent “Undertow,” an Atlantis-meets-the-Matrix epic. How do those two go together? Read up and find out.

Dark Horse‘s “The White Suits” graduates from “Dark Horse Presents” into it’s own gritty title. If you’re a fan of noir and stylish assassins, check this one out!

With a successful @MeltdownComics signing in the bag, Oni Press’ “The Bunker” shook the shelves with a first issue that will literally break your brain (in a good way). Bunker Buzzwords: Future/Past-self, Presidency, Post-apocalypse, friendship!

From IDW, the character that’s permeated nearly every artistic medium and human heart out there, the swolest of the swole: Black Dynamite! Come join Byron Minns, Scott Sanders, and Brian Ash on March 1st, 2014 from 5-8PM @MeltdownComics, and get that #1 signed. Rumor has it Scott Sanders has soul music for us!

Out of the Marvel Comics bunch, “The Punisher” makes his way to sunny LA in his first issue, with a guest appearance from a Danny Trejo look-alike and many of the LA locales you know and love. But why stop there? Issue #2 introduces you to what could be Frank’s new mascot, and a surprise visit from a familiar Marvel villain.

Lastly, but certainly not least, “Black Widow” #1 delivers a rock-solid spy drama, written by the same writer of “The Punisher,” @NathanEdmondson. Want him to sign both those #1’s for you? Join us on March 12th, 2014 from 5:30-8:30PM.

Any of these titles grab your attention? Did you already pick one of them up this week? Let us know in the comments section which #1 titles you thought were the best/show the most promise, and we’ll give that title an in-depth spotlight review.

via “We’re sealing up his crate, plastering those “Caution: Dangerous Animal” stickers on the outside, and sending Cannibal Fuckface to the signing. God forgive us.
