Alejandro Jodorowsky is the comics mastermind behind such graphic greats as THE INCAL and THE METABARONS and many, many more. He’s also the auteur behind such cult films as El Topo and The Holy Mountain.

This Saturday and Sunday, The Egyptian Theatre will be screening four of Jodorowsky’s films and Jodorowsky himself will be there each night for a Q&A session between movies. This is your chance to hear from and question one of the most unique voices in comics or film.

If I could travel the multiverse for a day, one of my first stops would be to find and watch Jodorowsky’s aborted mid-70s/pre-Lynch film adaptation of Dune starring Salvador Dali & Orson Welles, designed by Moebius & H.R. Giger and with music composed by the likes of Pink Floyd…

If you’ve seen Avatar, you’ll have no doubt that it was influenced by the visually rich European space-opera science fiction comics that Heavy Metal magazine introduced American audiences to in 1977.

And now things have come full circle as David Fincher’s latest attempt to revive the Heavy Metal film franchise with a 3-D animated epic now has himself (Fight Club), James Cameron (Avatar) and Zack Snyder (300) attached to direct segments. The previous incarnation also had Kevin Eastman (co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and current publisher of Heavy Metal) set to direct a portion, so we might still see that as well.

Which means our recent archival re-discovery of a lost stash of Heavy Metal magazines from 1977-1982 (first 6 years of publication) is perfect timing! Come check ‘em out. At only $5 apiece, you won’t be sorry.
