Opening Reception: Saturday, May 6, 2006 (7 PM - 11 PM )

Admission is free

“Syunga”, literally translated is “the paintings of spring”. Syunga is one kind of UKIYOE , originated from the 17th century , which depicts the love life of the Japanese male and female as inspiration for many artists throughout history and around the world. Influenced by this celebration of life and love Mari Inukai has created a body of work displaying her talents in oil, watercolor, drawings, mixed media and even ceramic toys. Sexy and cute, her work combines contemporary figure painting with flat animated creatures and elements. In our upstairs gallery space, we will be featuring the work of “Tonomime” an alias for the collaboration of Mari and Kent Williams as one creative force. In her own words, she attempts to “break the wall between imagination and sleep - as if to ask do you really know when you are you awake or asleep?”

There will be complimentary drinks and Japanese snacks as well as other free giveaways when you bring the show flyer the opening night.
