07/16/2007: "For Immediate Release: D.I.Y. Qee Project: Bart"
Customized 10” D.I.Y. Bart Simpson Qees by Artists and Designers from across the globe in Celebration of The Simpsons Movie Release comes to Meltdown August 1st - 3rd!
Event Flyer

The D.I.Y. Qee Project: BART presented by TOY2R and Diamond Comics. TOY2R has
assembled a virtual who’s who list of today’s hottest pop culture artists,
designers and illustrators from around the world. Each artist will paint,
sculpt, and customize their own unique reinterpretation of the iconic character,
Bart Simpson, using the10” D.I.Y. Bart Simpson Blank Platform Qee Figure as a
blank canvas. Many of these artists have either grown up watching The Simpsons
or are inspired by its creativity, humor and sardonic look at life. To bring
these original creations to the fans, TOY2R and Diamond Comics are launching a
worldwide art gallery tour stopping at respected galleries and art boutiques.
This tour will feature several of the custom creations, many available for
auction to the public.
This reboot of the classic animated icon created by Matt Groening almost 20
years ago not only celebrates the first feature length film, opening July 27th,
but also marks the launch of the licensed line of Qee figures based on The
Simpsons characters.
The World Premiere of these custom D.I.Y. figures and the very first release of
the 3” Classic Bart Qee figures will happen July 5 through the 8th, 2008 at the
Taipei Toy Festival. Shortly after that the US will see the custom figures on
display at the San Diego Comic Con, July 25th through the 29th in conjunction
with the release of the 3” Classic Bart Qees.
The D.I.Y. Qee Project will then move to art galleries. The list of galleries
will include stops in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas and other major
cities in the United States. Simultaneously overseas, the tour will stop at
Colette in Paris, France on July 23rd through the 28th. August 1st through the
3rd at Meltdown Comics/Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. Then the tour will move to
Luisa Via Roma in Florence, Italy during September 10th through the 30th. Other
overseas stops will include the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and many others.

The Simpsons: Premiering January 14, 1990, The Simpsons is the longest-running
primetime animated series in history, and the longest running sitcom currently
on primetime television. The Simpsons is also a cultural institution. The
Simpsons has an extremely loyal and dedicated fan base worldwide. Intelligently
written, subversively humorous and delightfully witty, the show pokes fun at
itself and everything in its wake.
The series has been critically praised and bestowed with numerous honors,
including a Peabody Award, 18 Emmy Awards, 16 Annie Awards, 3 Genesis Awards, 8
International Monitor Awards, and 5 Environmental Media Awards. The Simpsons
were recently nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series -
Musical or Comedy. The series recently celebrated airing its 400th episode,
another record breaking milestone.
About Toy2R: Created out of a passion to put toys in an art context. Toy2r is
systematically breaking down the barriers between product design, art, and
graphics. Founded in 1995, Toy2R is the first company to focus on the designer
toy phenomenon, combining art and developing vinyl toys for the collectors
market.
The D.I.Y. Qee Figures are white initially, three-dimensional blank canvases for
various artists to explore and design. The results materialize into unique
artistic forms of expression. From today’s biggest names in pop art and fashion,
to new collectors and designers, Qees represent a collectible format that is
both artistic and obtainable.

Distributors has grown from a regional operation with 17 customers to the
world’s largest distributor of English-language comic books and related
pop-culture merchandise. From strategically located Distribution Centers
throughout North America and the U.K., Diamond services more than 3,500 comic
book specialty shops every month, plus another 1,000 retailers who carry comics

Horse Comics, Image Comics and Wizard Entertainment. In its 20-year history,
Diamond has expanded beyond comics to bring the best pop-culture products and
services to retailers, consumers, and collectors.
About Colette: Colette first opened its doors in March 1997 situated along
213 rueSaint-Honore in Paris.

tagline "styledesignartfood" to its 700+ square-meter space. The colette world
is one of constant unexpectedness and surprise. A spontaneous, unique and
entertaining mix of influences and inspiration from around the world. A world
spanning three-levels where hi-tech meets fashion. Art blends with streetwear.
Books are teamed with music. Beauty compliments design objects and cinema is
screened whilst people meet, greet and eat in the downstairs water bar.
