“LA Myth” has brought together twenty three top visual artists to reveal this secret world.
LA Myth01
There is a magic to life in LA. There are forces unknown, paved over by urban traffic jams, and obscured by smog. But you know its there, Giant robots, Goblins, and Unicorns! Mythological creatures are real and threaded in the very fabric our daily lives.
A wonderland that was sown long ago is now bearing fruit in the presence of a mass migration of dreamcatchers from a thousand separate regions, drawn to the conspiratorial mantra of IT COULD BE YOU coupled with the neon sizzle of YOU CAN’T WIN IF YOU DON’T PLAY. Most days Los Angeles lies unmoving in a dry heap of angry but if you slow down and pay attention you see that the show, indeed, always goes on. The freakish energy that is pooh-poohed in separate quarters as La-La Land is only successfully harnessed by a driven few and they are extremely reluctant to teach any old rube a single trick, but you see them on the street, pulling what strings they control every day. The faces are recognizable as our modern commedia cast; brittle celebrity with her cracked Judy act, unhinged hobo with his fake bladder of spent ale, Punch the Old Scold with blog and BMW replacing a board with a nail through it. Conspiracy is baked on top of myth and spread across legends that predate the Pueblo de Los Angeles and postulate the occult realities of technologies yet unexplored. This is our subject and this is our show.
The team at LA Myth has secretly drawn together twenty three of the top visual artists from around the globe to illuminate the layers of this shrouded world in a gallery presentation at Meltdown. We feel we speak to trusted associates and thus reveal the participants to you in confidence.
